Friday April 22nd - EVAC Japan Relief Film Series
Please join us for a second film night to raise funds for the survivors of the earthquake/tsunami and nuclear refugees of Fukushima. This time we are screening Hayao Miyazaki's Princess Mononoke (1997), an animated epic that depicts the fierce struggle between humans and spirits of the forest as well as internal contradictions within both sides. The film also asks the philosophical question of what it means to live in the midst of antagonism between human civilization and the natural world and suggests the way in which it can end. All donations collected at this event will go to Japan Family Farmers Movement (NOUMINREN).

There will be a silent auction featuring art, services, products and other cool things that fit the bill. So far we have some paintings, prints, photos, Oakley Sunglasses, a $40 TSC gift card, cooking classes and food for Lunch and Dinner for 4, bike repair vouchers up for bidding! We are accepting donations of items for the auction, so that's another way to support EVAC!

There will be yummy food and beverages available courtesy of Food Not Bombs London. For those who want to support EVAC, but cannot commit to a membership at this time, this is a great way to show your support. Attend, perform, donate, bid and come enjoy the gallery space! Everyone is invited to our open house from 7-9pm. The open house is all ages and alcohol free. Tell your friends!

Kate is unleashing her latest album ‘Repeat Repeat’, an eleven song collection that showcases just how diverse her years of recording have made her. A solid amalgamation of indie-pop, rock, folk and barren singer-songwriter, this album holds something for every listener, a ride that can take you from empowered and joyous to intimately revealing and vulnerable in just one sitting. Connecting to her listeners has always been something that comes naturally to Rogers, and only seems to be getting stronger with each new work she conjures up. Repeat Repeat is clearly no exception to that rule.

Jess Hill is a unique singer-songwriter risen from the talented denizens of East Vancouver. She is a storyteller whose delicately constructed lyrical worlds captivate, standing firmly with her blues-draped compositions. Her music will smash your heart, pinch you in your sweetest nerves, give pause to the present and sing you to sleep all in one gently fierce moment. Jess invites the audience into her realm, engaging them with a voice like the sound of a well-rosined bow across your heartstrings, telling tales over her skillfully crafted guitar playing. She can pull a room of strangers into her palm, crushing them with stinging emotions and releasing them reborn into the night.

Vancouver native Leah Abramson — formerly of traditional folk bands Dyad, The Crooked Jades, and indie-rockers Octoberman — enlisted her friends in some of Vancouver’s best-loved bands (members of Fond of Tigers, Dan Mangan’s band, Headwater) to play her haunting folk-noir originals as The Abramson Singers.

Writing quirky, catchy and beautiful songs about topics such as truck drivers, old maids, the oil sands and the famous rebel Louis Riel, Leah is a heartbreaking storyteller and singer, hearkening back to simpler times, while embracing present concerns.

East Village Storytime
Drop in to EVAC on Mondays, 10 - 11 am for a fun-filled storytime for babies, tots & preschoolers with their parent/caregiver. Linda will bring along her guitar and great picture books & share action rhymes, finger plays, and songs! Get ready to shake your sillies out! The 30 minute storytime will be followed up with an optional craft time. Coffee and tea available for $1. Bring your own snack to eat following storytime.
